This October, the Philippines will witness the first SK elections after the SK Reform law was passed. It is therefore crucial for youth participation and SK reform advocates to come together and secure the proper implementation of the reform law.
It is also crucial to prepare the youth in engaging the new SK. Many young people are still unaware of the reforms put in place and still need to be equipped in maximizing SK as a mechanism for empowerment. Albeit there are available leadership seminars across the country, there remains a dearth of training seminars that promote SK participation and youth engagement in local governance.
The Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking (CYAN), in its continuing campaign for a truly participatory SK hopes to contribute to this by providing a capacity-building and leadership workshop for young progressives, targeting young leaders at the barangay (village) level, in order to ensure substantive participation of the youth in the upcoming SK elections and promote proper implementation of the SK Reform Law.
This training aims to produce efficient, capable, and progressive young leaders that will advance youth agenda in their respective localities and barangays/villages through the reformed Sangguniang Kabataan. The training modules include topics such as:
(1) The need for youth participation and the new SK;
(2) youth leadership assessment;
(3) critical youth issues;
(4) youth agenda development workshop;
(5) message development; and
(6) project and advocacy management.
Should you be interested in bringing this training to your city/municipality/barangay and partner with CYAN, , please do not hesitate to contact us through our project officer, Ms. Mai-mai Cabarrubias through mobile no. +63 929 440 9319.
